This achievement dethrones Universal’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which previously held the title with its $574 million earnings.

The “Barbie” movie, based on the iconic doll, has also become a strong contender for the highest-grossing global release of the year, with a total of $1.3 billion worldwide. It’s closely approaching the $1.35 billion earned by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” since its release in April. These two films are currently the only ones to have crossed the $1 billion mark in box office earnings this year.
